Longarm Quilting

Thank you for considering us to be a part of your quilting creation!

Preparing Your Quilt

Please follow these guidelines for preparing your quilt top, backing and/or batting and your quilt will look better and you'll save money.

If you have prewashed the fabrics in your quilt top it is highly recommended that you prewash your backing fabric also. Your Quilt top and backing fabric must be "freshly" ironed. Once ironed, please fold the width of the quilt as loosely as possible to fit onto the largest hanger you have (a dry cleaner hanger works well). Then drape the lengthwise in half over the hanger.

Backing and batting must be 4" larger on all four sides than your quilt top on all 4 sides,  (8"-10" wider and longer) . Any prep work we must do to prepare your backing for quilting will incur additional charges, piecing, squaring up, or ironing. If you are using a wide back and it is more than 8" longer you do not need to trim to size. You will have a more usable piece after the quilting is finished. However your width of backing should be no more than 10" wider than you quilt top.
Packaged batting must be removed from the package, placed in the dryer with a damp cloth and tossed on gentle cycle to remove the folds and wrinkles prior to bringing it to us. Any additional prep work that we must do to prepare your batting for quilting will incur additional charges, including wrinkle removal and cutting down to size.
Backing and batting must be squared to ensure that it is indeed the correct size.
Backing must be properly seamed together. Pieced backing should have the seam(s) running horizontal. If you are piecing your backing as a "pieced" back, small short seams in multiple directions are okay.We cannot guarantee that backings and tops will be perfectly centered.

We will not accept sheets as backing fabric. They can be very difficult to quilt and the quilting does not look as nice.

Your quilt top and backing must be received as separate layers. We will baste or stitch along all four sides as we quilt it, so if you are planning to fold your backing over as the binding you will be responsible for removing the stitches along the edges. We will not do so.

Square and press your top as you piece it. This will help your quilt top to lay flat.

Be sure all pieced seams are completely sewn together, trimmed and pressed flat. We are not responsible for accidental tears or rips in your quilt due to open seams catching on the foot of the machine.

Ripples and "puffy" places will not necessarily quilt flat. Take care that your borders are not "friendly" or ripple and wave. There are many variables that cause this.

Your quilt top should be free of pins and embellishments such as buttons and beads. " Prairie points" will need to be removed prior to us quilting your quilt.

Clip all loose threads. They will show through light fabrics and might damage the quilt if they "catch" during the quilting process.

Your quilt top should be trimmed down  to your desired finished size by you, prior to bringing it to us. We will not cut or trim a quilt top.

We recommend stay stitching around the edge of your quilt, especially if you have bias edges or do not have outside borders on your quilt.

Use one safety pin to mark the top of the quilt if it is directional and inform us of this at drop off.

If you would like us to match thread color to a specific fabric color, please let us know.

We supply a variety of thread colors, including variegated. We use different types of fil-tec threads, perma-core, and king tut. All threads are included in the price of the quilting except for variegated or specialty threads. An additional charge of $3.00 per bobbin will be charged for these threads.

We usually match the thread in the bobbin with the top. Be aware that if you request us to use 2 different colors on top and bottom YOU WILL HAVE "POKIES" on either the top or bottom of your quilt, it is not due to incorrect tension, it is the locking of the stitches together. They may disappear after the quilt is washed and dried.

We will gladly trim your quilt after it is quilted for an additional charge based on the size of your quilt. Please inform us at the time you drop it off if you would like this service and specify how you would like it trimmed, ex: even with the edge of your quilt top or leave back/batting a little larger, like 1/8"-1/4".

Pricing

Prices are based on the size of your quilt and the complexity of the pattern. We charge by the square inch starting at 2 cents per square inch. To figure the square inches of your quilt top, measure the width and length, then multiply them together. This will give you the total square inches of your quilt top. Then multiply the total square inches by the type of quilting you request. Example: a quilt which measures 80"x80"= 6,400 square inches. Multiply 6,400x.02 (2.00 cents per square inch) =$128.00. We have a minimum charge of $50.00 no matter how small the quilt or runner is.

There are several different categories:
Allover E2E ( edge to edge ) meaning the same design is repeated throughout the entire quilt).
    E2E starts at 2 cents/sq inch
Large to medium sized, open E2E quilting: 2 cents/sq inch
Large to Medium sized, intricate E2E : 2.5 cents/sq inch
    Small E2E quilting : 3 cents/sq inch
    Semi custom : 4 cents/sq inch
Custom : 4.5 cents/sq inch and up depending on how intricate and dense we get.
Custom and free motion quilting services are limited to quilts 93" wide or less. E2E quilts are limited to 108" wide or less.

Christmas Quilt deadline is OCT 1. Quilts brought in after that date may not be ready before Christmas and are subject to a RUSH FEE of 10%.

Batting: You are not required to purchase batting from us though we do have it available. If you are using  "packaged" batting, please remove from the package, open it up, tumble it in the dryer with a damp cloth then gently fold in thirds by length and drape over a hanger to bring it to us.

We carry the following high quality battings
Hobbs 80/20 cotton/poly blend premium bleached 108" wide $11.00 per yard
    Hobbs Polydown $8.00 per yard.

We do reserve the right to refuse to use your packaged batting if we feel it is of poor quality as this can cause problems and more work for us.
